New windscreen coming my way at some point when the resto is finalised. Are the new screens less prone to delamination or are they the same ?

Production methods haven't changed much for the smaller production runs; the trick is to keep the water off the glass edge.

Some windscreens however - like for the V8 - will show signs of delam almost the next day owing to the glass edge being exposed. This is largely down to the overall thickness of the sandwich construction and that it the windscreens for these cars are produced in low volumes by hand, the old school way.

I have finally got my Chimaera windscreen from RaceTech Direct. BUT it needs to be packed properly for shipping to New Zealand and seems they can't pack it themselves, nor can they find anyone who can, so it's been stuck in their shop since April mad

Can anyone put me in touch with someone who might be able to help. And I'd prefer that they can go to RaceTech (Henley-on-Thames) to pack it for me.
Otherwise it seems I will have to send them an empty crate from New Zealand which seems a bit crazy, but it not looking like I have any choice.

Sadly I can't drive my car, but taking this opportunity to fix it up - and in the process of fitting an Eaton supercharger - anyone come across a RV8 with an Eaton?

Many Thanks.

Hi,

I’d personally go to a specialist.

I had a wedge done by one of the usuals, had a long complaint list after.

Went to a smaller outfit near me in Surrey and a lovely job.

The thing is, when I spoke to the insurance company after the 1st bodge, they said I should have mentioned the specialist place, so you haven’t always got to go to their recommended, the excess may be a bit higher but worth it.

I see your in Surrey also, it was old school windscreens in longcross ottershaw.

This was a long time ago, but they are still going, but haven’t needed to go back since, so I don’t know if it’s changed hands etc.

Metal stillage would be the perfect carrier however many screens (in bulk) are transported all over the world in wooden crates. It would need to be edge-protected and then strapped in, then packed with sponge and polystyrene as it's entombed into the crate.

Is there a timescale?

Many thanks for your replies guys. I have emailed Old School Windscreens and see what they come up with.
And yes, metal stillage sounds great - but RaceTech can't even find anyone in England to build a wooden crate - so a bit hard from New Zealand trying to organise metal crates!
So again, any contacts gratefully rec'd.

Thinking outside the box it might be worth contacting someone like 5 Star Cases, they will make anything you want.

I would think it would be around £600-700 for a case for a windscreen. Not sure what you would do with it after you have done with it though.

https://5star-cases.com

We use them for all our equipment.

For shipping around the world, we use Team Global https://www.teamdeliver.com

Many thanks. I have emailed 5 star cases.
Cost is irrelevant - if it wasn't for Covid quarantine requirements I'd fly over there and build the crate & package it my self - I'm desperate!
