Santa Pod 6th-8th Sept
Discussion
I asked that a few days back www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=16149&f=13&h=0
There doesn't seem to be that much interest on here.
Have you heard any more details?

I would definitely have gone if it wasn't for Pie on the Beach. I sat next to a drag racing champion at the Back Home Ball on Saturday night - the guy who turn up with this mighty 'Carlube' TuscanS. I didn't even know drag racing existed in the UK, so this chap talked at length about his sport... It beggards belief and I would love to see it for real.
I'll most certainly be going this weekend! I haven't decided whether i'm going to camp there or commute every day yet!
I'll be travelling from Kent, so if anyone else wants to meet up along the way, we'd better get something sorted out!
There are 8 Top Fuel Dragsters confirmed so I'd say it's gonna get busy. I would recommend getting there pretty early, especially on Sunday, if the weather's good.

Hi All,
There are a few of us going on Sunday from the Berks Region. I believe the 2 for 1 if your in a TVR plus dedicated parking is still on offer, our RO got a phone call from Barry Sheavills (the guy who was at Back Home)asking how many were likely to go. I'll try to confirm the details if our RO is about tonight.

FYI this is the info I have been given regarding Santa Pod:
"This Sunday is the European Finals for drag racing.
The Directors from Santa Pod have contacted Graham Maidlow, the TVRCC Berkshire R.O., informing him that as well as a half price ticket offer,
they are providing a hospitality tent. You must be in a TVR.
There will be FIA Top Fuel Dragsters, Top Methanol Dragsters, Top Methanol
Funny Cars, Pro Stock, FIM Drag Bikes, Jet Car Shows, Junior Dragsters,
etc, etc so it will be an exciting day out.
For further details please view the events section of the Berkshire regions web site at www.tvr-berks.co.uk or www.santapod.com
If you wish to go along pay on the gate (kids go free)."
I hope that clarifies the situation for those wishing to go.

Sorry, just the mesenger, I don't know if Saturday is included or what the trafic will be like. It should be quieter as Sunday is the actual finals. I did hear that 20K or so people were expected, if the organisation is good I hope the queues won't be too bad. Acording to the website the racing starts about 09:30 so the die hard fans will be in by then.

It's always good to get there early, to give you time to walk around the pits first!
Think it will be busy this weekend. There is a possibility that members of a certain motorcycle club, known as Hells Angels, may be in large attendance. All hoping to meet their hero, Sonny Barger, who's supposed to be there signing books!

quote:Jolly sporting of them! I almost feel guilty for smuggling someone in under a blanket on the parcel shelf of my Chimaera last time I went!

Expecting guests this weekend, otherwise it'd be a dead cert. Shame.

So who went in the end! I had been looking forward to this event all year, so was somewhat pissed off when everybody who was supposed to be going up with me, blew me out
Spent all weekend reading the live reports on eurodragsters web site! Looks like I missed a good event, but was sad to see 2 of Europes Top Fuel dragsters destroyed!
Oh well, roll on next year!

Ten of us went from Berkshire, 3 Chimaeras and a people mover. 2 for 1 deal worked - VIP carpark was full when we arrived (09:30) so we parked on a convenient patch of grass by the track. We did not find the hospitality tent, Barry Sheavills who was organising it had a 300mph crash on Saturday, so we did not persue that one. He was walking around but obviously in some discomfort, there was not much left of his car.
Having never seen drag racing live before it is certainly a spectacle. Very LOUD and very FAST cars doing 280mph in a quarter of a mile, not to mention 170+ on a motorbike.

I was there on Sunday. The chap on the gate knew nothing about the 2 for 1 deal, luckly the girl in the next kiosk did though.
There was no special parking area that anyone could tell me about, and I didn't even ask about the hospitality ! All in all the usual Santa Pod cock up.
Having said all that I would have been there anyway having been a regular for 20 years or so, but it would have been nice if what we were told was there actually happened. I feel an e-mail to Santa Pod coming on.
The racing was excellent again. Very sad to see 2 top fuel cars wrecked in the same weekend, but at least both drivers walked away from these mega crashes. That in its self has got to be a bit plus for the sport.

I went on the Saturday and really enjoyed it. Got the 2 for 1 offer ok, but they didn't know anything about a separate parking area for Tivs, or access to the hospitality tent, but I'm not too bothered about that.
Probably go again at some point, and will make sure I'm properly equipped (chairs, coat, thermos...)
