Hi guys,

I'm getting quotes for a 6k service (Tuscan) at the moment, and getting some wildly differing amounts.

As low as £350 as high as £570.

I'm starting to wonder what I'm paying for.. Does anyone have an original TVR checklist / service schedule?

It may be that the lower figure is for a 6k service, the higher is for a 12k service. The latter includes setting the tappet clearances, which is a labour intensive process.

I always have the tappet clearances done on every service to keep the engine sweet, so I pay around £600 every time.

Not too clear a copy

This is the minimal , a good TVR specialist will check lots of other potential problem areas.

I find it to be as low as £600 and as high as £1300.

If you only need the basic service items then it is a good day. That has never been the case for me, there are always a few other things to be done.

what "other things" would need to be done on a speed six service? Filters, fluids, belts, clearances could be expected I guess. (I'm a prospective six owner, just wondering what i'm letting myself in for!)

I would suggest a contributing factor to pricing is how thorough and knowledgeable the garage is. The cars are all getting old and maintenance will be required on all aspects of the mechanics - bushes, electrics, hoses, braking, suspension, the list could go on. My service costs are beyond anything I ever thought I would pay when I bought my first TVR (a Chim), and that's with me doing bits n bobs myself.

I've now accepted it's a price worth paying for something that makes me happy even when entering the garage to fill the recycle bins.

The payback is via enhanced reliability and residual value should you ever come to sell.

Only my opinion of course... thumbup

And just to be sure everyone knows I was tongue in cheek, just had a 6K service on the Sag from Mat Smith

....£299 inc VAT - needed nothing.

Not bad for a 12 year old car

From experience I'd say engine mounts are a service item pretty much every 12k smile
If you look at my cars garage on my profile page I've detailed all my expenditure barr tax, insurance and fuel sine I've owned my car. It is well used and certainly no garage queen but it is maintained as such and wants for nothing when it is needed.
