Since we decided not to move abroad on a permanent basis but to stay in England we've rationalised the fleet a bit and decided to spend less time working and more time enjoying ourselves (which doesn't really square with Jon being in Columbia ATM ) so...
It's time for a new car and, having seen a deep blue one near Carsington today (anyone we know ?) I wanna Tuscan !
Any recommendations re: spec, dealership etc. gratefully received. What sort of lead time should I expect (It'd be nice to be able to play with it over the summer) or should I go for a used one ? Nice orange one on HHC's website - good plate too Is a used one likely to have had the problems sorted ?

Surely they can't all be out driving at this time! The Tuscan is an awesome looking car, it has to be said! Think I prefer the McLaren F1 though....

There's a wealth of information out there! My thoughts on your questions:

Buy a new Tuscan S - I would if I could... The 'problems' - a new one might have the odd niggle, but then so might one with 10k on it. The whole engine thing has been well covered - new ones shouldn't be a problem is looked after. I think you'd have a wait of 2-3 months for the build - someone else here will know better!
There is TMS just outside Leicester and James Agger in Nottingham - have heard good things about both.

Good luck, I'm envious!

What models are there ? (I'm going to go up to HHC tomorrow and I don't want to look a complete muppet.) Is the S the 'standard' model ?

MrsD, sir. Drive one. Then drive another. And another. etc.

Unless it's new, Tuscans are nice but I think my 350 would suit me better...

Got some stories about friends who have them so if you need advice nearer the time mail me. I promise the typing will be unlike my witterings on PH...

There is a standard 3.6 litre 350bhp version and a 4.0 litre 390bhp 'S' version at £40k and £49k approx. You get a bunch of extra kit on the S (Suspension, brakes, bigger alloys, air-con, gas discharge headlights etc.)

mrsd, hopefully our Griff will become a Tuscan soon too. There are 2 models Tuscan and Tuscan S, both have 4.0ltr versions of Tamora/T350 3.6ltr engine. The S has uprated suspension and 'aero' package (chin and tail spoilers)I think the S has another 30bhp eaked from the engine too. Have been told the 2002 onwards with drilled discs are the better ones to go for (the powder coating on the chassis is improved as well).

The old maxim 'buy the latest you can afford' seems to be pertinent when buying any TVR. No doubt the corrections will now flood in from the Tuscan boys and girls.

Hi mrsd,

I've just ordered a new Tuscan S from Castle last week, and it should be delivered early May so lead times are around 2 months at the moment.

They may be a bit far for you to get to, but I've found Castle to be really good - their salesman (Michael Caine) is TVR's factory race driver, and there is another guy there (Ian) who designs the colour schemes of the cars they display at motor shows, and he is able to do a few things with the interiors that other dealers can't (e.g., aluminium switchgear instead of brass).

You'll probably find you get referred to one of the dealers nearest to where you live though, as they expect you to get the car serviced at the supplying dealer.

It's a great car - the only problem with buying one is working out what colour to have it painted and trimmed!!

I agree with entirely with 'ehasler', I would also highly recommend Castle if you could get there (for the very points ehasler pointed out). If you would have followed my progress on PH when I got my Tuscan S from Castle on the 1st March (see my profile & forums)....you will see that it only took me 4 weeks from order to delivery!

fyi - the reaction I got driving around this weekend was amazing...I have had people hooting, screaming, waving, thumbs up - therefore so long as your prepared to be the centre of attention...go for it!!!! It will the best move you would have made!

Let us know how you get on.

Alan.

Mrsd, if you've not already made a decision, give the T350 a test drive, it is much easier to drive and far less twitchy than the Tuscan.

Although I loved our Tuscan, I am falling for the 350 even more.

Worthwhile wander round HHC. They seem to have sold the orangina coloured one on the website (T1VVR anyone we know ?) I'm definitely only at window shopping stage ATM.
Haven't seen a 350 in the flesh yet. Not totally convinced from the pictures. The Tuscan's sheer 'what the #%&*' styling and presence appeals and I'm sure I can handle the power

I wasn't convinced by the 350 in pictures, all I can say is it is totally different in the flesh, so hold off on your opinion until then. When Fish first told me he wanted to change from the Tuscan I was gutted as I love that car, but I've now changed my mind
