This was the Griffith update, I think it was 1996, this was before it evolved a year later to the speed six, then to the Tuscan it lost some of the delicate proportions of the original griffith at each stage, this was my favourite. All the bodysides were 'tightened up' the screen was more raked and it was just simple and elegant like the 90's original.

Original, I think, Speed 12 press shots not not sure if this was the wider version.

Some details taken at the factory

Was never sure (well I was actually) I didn't think the rear end worked as well. I always felt that PW and co. felt they had to meddle with the rear lights when in fact they had it right first time round.

The rear light issue was mainly down to trying to have a bespoke look rather than an off the shelf parts bin kit car. I cannot remember what the Griffith rear lamps were off? The Chimaera was Fiesta lamps. I admit that an overdose of round lamps and reflectors does look like someone shot it's ass with a blunderpuss. The yellow one was quite restrained compared to a Tamora.

They were from a Vauxhall Cavalier, but they were turned upside down.

I think the original ones looked fine - those on the orange one above look terrible.

Great pictures. Loved the look of this, shame it never hit production. I think the original Griff rear design is perfect, but I actually prefer this revised rear end compared to the Tuscan Mk1/Tamora that followed.

Great piece of history. Windscreen looks much more raked than final production ?

That was the starting point, it was a stretched Chimaera. I think that was a standard Chimaera windscreen, there are already some tape lines on the screen to shorten it.

I thought that was the case but then dismissed that the factory would have just cured a new body from an exciting model and carved it up to experiment. Should have known better really !

Antera rings a bell, but a quick search brings nothing. Although we are talking almost 20 years ago.... maybe they are in a catalogue?

You're talking about the wheels originally fitted to the Cerbera Speed Six (as it was known at the time). They look like OZ Saturns to me but with a different centre cap exposing the wheel nuts.
