a derogotory term when talking about TVR or simply a friendly nickname.
I've felt that some non-TVR people use it as a derogotory term and I've had a go at them for it. Was I wrong in doing so?

I prefer TVR. Or Griff. I can live with 'Tiv' if I have to but 'Trevor' is demeaning - to me it implies something built in a shed by one bloke. Which might have been the case in 1947, but not now.

Everyone at work and in village where I live calls my
Griff - Trevor. Initially they thought it funny but now I realise they are just jealous! I don't care and I call it Trevor occasionally. I even tell the wife I'm just going out with Trevor.

Definately an OK expression IMHO. I did get told off once for going too far and calling my Chim "Trevina" because I thought it was more feminine than the wedge before.

True but unfortunate. I also have a BMW but I'm never tempted to call it a Bayern Motor Werken. Gesellschaft. gmbh. or whatever.
