Posted the original fault in the Tuscan forum but as it's a general 'electrics' question and I've still not solved it I thought I'd throw the question out to the floor.

My car is a Tuscan. When I bought it a few months ago I noticed that the voltage was varying a little, maybe plus or minus half a volt. This also seemed to be causing the lights and pod to 'pulse' slightly. Over the last few weeks however it's become more noticeable with the voltage varying between 13.2 and 15.8. It doesn't sem to matter what the revs are, it just oscillates randomly.

I removed the alternator and took it to a local auto electrician who (says he) tested it and that a new one would cost me £220 + TVRparts.com reduced that to £135 + but now it's fitted I'm still seeing the same fault.

What else is there in the system that might be at fault? Any ideas?

Have you checked the 100 amp fuse near the starter motor? It can crack or come loose and cause wierd symptoms. Also check the main engine to chassis earth connection.

Fuse checked, forgot to mention that. Where wil I find the earth?

On a sidenote is there a Tuscan equivalent of the Steve Heath bible? I miss not being able to look my own stuff up.

I had a problem with the Alternator not charging and the battery warning light staying on. This was due to a large ceramic resistor at the back of the pod shorting and arcing across the PCB. If you take off and remove the top of pod(carefully-as this is a common cause of why the resistor gets damaged in the first place) you should be able to see if the solder joints are dry or any traces of arcing.

Very similar problem on my S2 caused by a poor connection on a multiplug by the ign switch. I dont think the later cars ahve them so I guess it will be a hunt for a poor connection or a poor earth.

This was my problem

Oooh, narsty.

Ok, I suppose the hunt is on for a poor earth but that raises a question about the auto electrician who assured me the original alternator was shot. Surely he wasn't just trying to sell me a new one? Hmmm?

Sure!
I've got the same problem on my T350! I'll check the earths for first, then battery connections and fuse under airbox for last.

Don't forget the fused supply to the fuse board in the PS footwell.

Yes, the problem could be there: Water enters from the open hood cable when I trigger the wipers... yikes
Now i've i sealed everything with silicone.

Hi everybody!

To resolve this issue, it would be necessary to know which model of Magneti-Marelli alternator is usually mounted on the T350! Please take a look to these pdf tables and You'll be able to repair your original alternator by YOURself, ordering a new VOLTAGE REGULATOR...!

http://www.magnetimarelli-checkstar.com/it/show/27...

I've the same problem, i'll remove the airbox this w.e. and i'll let You know which model i have (hopefully will be a Magneti-Marelly)
Please let me know which model you also have... Thanks!

Check all your earths, if necessary run a temporary, and see if it helps the problem. One of the downsides with fibreglass bodys. Cant just use the shell.
