Do you mean that they withdraw cash from a bank and putit straight into your account ? If they were German what did they do convert some money and then wire it to your bank in readiness to withdraw it?

Sorry, don't quite know what you mean ?
Nope, brought the cash all the way from Germany. My only stipulation was that the transaction was done when the bank was open (i.e no picking the car up on a Sunday) so I could deposit it and be happy it was genuine. Mind you I would ask that of any cash buyer.

I sold my Chim to a nice chap from Holland (which isn't France, I'll admit, but it's foreign, isn't it? hehe ). He just brought a bundle of sterling with him that he got from his bank in Holland. Very easy transaction really, certainly compared to some UK time-wasters. We agreed the deal over the phone, I told him the truth about the car, and he turned up, paid what we agreed and off he went.

ETA - the eagle-eyed reader will have noticed the knackered hood which I put my hand through the previous evening whilst giving her a final wipe over. The buyer was pretty decent about it really. redface

I think it must be a thing with these deals biggrin, I can't for the life of me find my second remote fob. Carl Baker can get me one so I will have to post it to the buyer

Just phoned up my bank who said that an international bankers draft can take 6 weeks to clear yikes

A S.W.I.F.T. transaction (UK equivalent of BACS/CHAPS transfer) can take 3-4 days.

It seems to me that there is going to be an element of trust whatever happens and I don't really want to do it like that !!

Don't really want to accept 10K cash as I have an internet bank and don't have a local bank that I use !!

The Swift transfer time depends on the originating back. A payment from a European bank should take less than 48 Hrs. UK banks are just st at this type of thing. The deposit for my Griff cleared in just over 24Hrs

My transaction went through the SWIFT route and I checked with the bank that as soon as the money hit it was 'bullet proof' ie it couldnt be touched by the buyer or their bank. I moved it to another account straight away just in case. smile

Once you have the money the onus is on the buyer to complete the transaction as you are in possession of both the money and the car. The trust is therefore on the buyers side which works well imho.

You could take the £10k to any bank, hand it over the counter and ask for a bankers draft payable to yourself or your internet account. There would be a fee to pay although I don't know how much.

Also, with transfers (I may get this a bit wrong as I can't remember exactly so feel free to correct) there are two stages. Funds/transfers cleared and Funds/transfers available for withdrawal or something similar. One means you "have" the money, the other means you almost have the money.

Probably worth checking how much they will charge you first though. Especially of you are not a customer.

I've got a chap in France interested in my Chim...e-mailed me and has asked for pics.

Maybe the strong Euro makes our asking prices look good to them?

Yes, that what I am hearing. I had interest from Sweden (not Euro of course), Germany, France and Spain - all cited that weak pound and current depressed prices as the motivating factor.

Bankers Draft should be about 10-20 quid
