Oh well. Should have guessed I couldn't add anything to this thread. I will say it was a good read for the most part and I learned a ton of info I didn't know before about a car that has always interested me.

Hi guys. Just read through this whole thread over the past two days thinking it was loooong dead until I finished it this morning.

The reason that I found the is thread in the first place was doing some research after finding out that the seemingly ONLY running car, besides that pace car in Japan... lol, IS FOR SALE.

Here is a link, http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-pa...

As far as I can tell, this is legit. If it isn't, try not to kill me. I found this on a autoblog called Jalopnik.com, btw.
ahhh but is that pacecar real? I've only heard it mentioned on here, no pics, nothing. Nobody has ever encountered it, so what's going on?

I agree I think it's a myth.

I take it the pacecar is the original white Speed 12 GTS? (this http://www.pistonheads.com/tvr/tvr/images/speed12-... It would be interesting to know what happened to it!

Leg end has it, that it was indeed a different car...but i have to admit, it is very strange that the white car disappeared off the face of the planet around the same time as the rumour started scratchchin

I know where the purple Motorshow shell is, but I don't know where the Speed 12 GTS went. I know its engine went into the first Cerbera Speed 12, but nothing else. WHERE IS THAT CAR?!

For the ex-factory bods, could the purple motorshow shell be put on to a rolling/working chassis?

I've got a project in mind, and was thinking about different ways of going about things...

PM me your details if you would like to have a chat about the options. I'm assuming you own the purple shell?

Do you mean this:

OR this:

If it's the former, I have thought this many times. Infact, it was a project I had lined up once I've finished my motorsport engineering qualifications.

Graham, you have mail, but no I don't - but I do have a plan!

Nick, didn't know you worked at the factory? It's the former though.

Do I heck. My plan was to get some moulds of the original body, then get a custom chassis made up, bolt in either an Aston V12 or Chevvy V8, and voila.

Any idea of the likely cost of all that...? Its bad enough building a Tuscan Challenge car let alone a Speed 12!

A lot. It's just an idea, but it's a perfectly possible idea, and something I hope to do.

ok so i just spent most of the day reading this thread and it was very informing and entertaining biggrin

but just need to clarify one thing as its quite a long thread ..... what happened to the GT1 speed 12 which appeared on topgear, is this the one that went to japan as the pace car, if so did it go with or without its engine?

Nobody knows, there's no documented evidence of it going to Japan. I think its engine may have ended up in the first Cerbera Speed 12, but I'm not sure. I would like to know where it went though!

Right chaps, think we've cracked the mystery of this Cerbera Speed 12 in a garage. It ISNT a Cerbera Speed 12 afterall. What we think it is is one of the Cerbera GT cars. That would explain why it's so much wider and lower than a normal Cerb. It'd also explain why it's a proper car with a chassis, rather than a mock up.
