Without sounding touchy I never said it was toe to toe... I said "I hear it is as potent" meaning drive wise you would get equal performance out of it ie being able to harness and use the available power.

Don't be sorry... Unless you were trying to be rude, but I'll take it as the LS is the more ballistic of the engines

Thanks

I'm afraid you have missed part of my answer - equal type cars (TVRs), one S6, one LS, the LS will monster the other. It really, really is chalk and cheese.

You have mentioned your assertion in another thread... By all means, purchase and enjoy your choice of engine. Trust me - modifying a Speed Six is a great thing. For me, they are the perfectly British engine. But to say that you will get equal performance out of it is just wrong.

No, not trying to be rude, glad it's being taken in the right way. smile

Topman thanks! Nice to hear from an owner with no vested interests!

Just to add, Dom from Powers will be the first to admit, if youre after big figures, go LS.
The S6 is an entirely different beast and my 4.3 was more than impressive, but having been taken for a cabbie in Brummies LS3...OMFG! Different league.

...But no AJP or Speed Six biglaugh

I'm really sorry, but that is utter, utter rubbish. I have a S6 engine that produces more bhp than my LS, and in a straight line, the LS would monster the S6. Put the different engines int he same car/chassis, the LS wins. Sorry, sad but true.

The 4.3/4.5/FFF is a good engine, don't get me wrong. But to say it's as powerful as.../quote]

So doesn't that mean that it DOESN'T produce more bhp than the LS (or that one bhp figure is overstated)?

The answer probably lies in comparisons between torque curves.

You couldn't get more different delivery styles than a high revving straight 6 versus a big displacement pushrod V8.

It boils down to personal preference. Nothing wrong in either and both are impressive but they are so different that you will find that you just get a bit more pleasure from one over the other.

It's interesting that the I6 is considered a "peakier" engine than the V8 which has a broad torque curve.

The natural advantage of the I6 is in low end torque production and they largely struggle compared the to V8 configuration at high RPM's due to the length of the crankshaft.

In theory the V8 should be the performance motor and the I6, the low RPM chugger.

It turns out the S6 loves to rev. Make sure there is enough air/fuel in there, and it just keeps on going. This is power run of mine a few years ago - standard bottom end with the FFF, and a few ACT goodies on it. We stopped the run at 7k, the engine is supposed to rev to 8.

no willy waving here, but just for comparison, this is a std ls2 with a cam.

the most obvious difference is the flat tq curve.

Being pedantic, the run stopped at 7400rpm, but everything tails at 7K.

Just goes to show what great engines TVR made...

That's why the TVR 6 was going to be a V6 until non-engineering reasons took over.
