Good news, my Telepeage device turned up today.

However I am a bit worried now as they seem to be asking for my bank details.

I completed the application using my credit card so they will definitely get paid, surely the credit card is all they would need?

I just cant see why they would need my bank details too?

I also don't have a French bank account.

Here is a translation of the letter they sent me.

"It is with pleasure that we give following your request for Spare Telepeage Time.

We thank you to have chosen the service from VINCI Motorways and let us send you your badge and its support fixing.

Also read the enclosed “Guide Telepeage VINCI Autoroutes” to benefit fully from all the advantages of the telepeage.

In order to finalize your subscription, if you have not done so already, we thank you for turning over to complete your statement of banking identity in under 15 days.

We remind you that after the passing of the 15 day deadline, we would be constrained to deactivate your badge if we have not received the documents.

We remain at your disposal for any further information & welcome you very soon on our motorways"

Not sure what I should do next, any ideas chaps?
Can anyone help with this?
We paid by credit card and thought that would be it, but they are now emailing with this which I'm getting concerned about as it will make the tag/badge that we have useless!

the easiest way to go is to use the "service commercial Telepeage" sales offices, which are at the entrance of the main autoroutes. Exact locations/ opening hours are on the web site. You fill in the contract, give your credit card number, and you will get the transponder for immediate use.

For foreigners as we are, you can only choose from following options
1. Euro 30 deposit for the transponder, Euro 2,00 every month you use the Autoroute, full fare
2. Euro 30 deposit for the transponder, Euro 20 per year, full fare

It works fantastic, especially in summer time when it is a major hassle to go through the tourist pack lingering at the normal booths. And for RHD: no need to monkey to the booths to get your ticket or to pay.
Im coming back from Switzerland through France next week (on my own) and would love to get a telepeage device to make things easier. I will be doing Chambery, Lyon, Dijon, Reims, Calais and wondered where I will be able to pick one up from?

I may have some bad news for you.

I requested a Vinci Telepayage transponder and went through the process you have, including contacting my bank for an IBAN number etc and completed the paperwork.

A transponder duly arrived about a week before Classic Le Mans. I was amazed and thought I'd got it cracked.

However, the day I left I received the following letter (in French) which I did nothing with and have just translated.

My transponder DID NOT work in France.

http://www.telepeagelibert.com/adoptez-liber-t/adoptez-liber-t.html

Main site, click on auroroute section. For Northern France goes here:

http://www.sanef.com/Offres-Liber-t/Offres-Liber-t...

Then click 'localiser now agences' on the right hand side, brings up a map of the places along the Autoroute where you can buy one.

Actually, this area is probably the one you'll hit first: http://www.telepeagepourtous.fr/fr/particulier/tou...

I have emailed them but I won't hold my breath for a reply biggrin I have completed the form and sent it off so I guess I'll see what happens? Be a good result if it comes through though?
I've had a few emails from them this week and it looks like I'm not allowed to have one, nevermind still have the Sanef one that works from my credit card so I can't be greedy.

Hi all,

I have just arrived in Dijon.

460 miles straight from Watford & the TVR ran like a dream biggrin

Shame I cant say the same about my VINCI Télépéage transponder furious

It worked a treat at the first toll.

Then refused me entry at the second one, although I managed to reverse out & go to another gate & it worked.

OK I thoughtidea, my one doesn't work on the 30kph Reserve gates.

Not so!

When I arrived at the third toll it failed again.

This time I was trapped by a German in a motorhome so I had no choice but to pull a ticket out of the machine to open the barrier.

After trying a Reserver "T" gate one last time we ended up in a que & paid by credit card at the exit to Dijon frown

I guess I should hunt down a VINCI office but its 4.45pm here in France so I expect they will be shut by the time I find them.

I will try an email to VINCI type but I have now lost faith in the device and I don't want to spend my holiday on this project.

Wish I spoke better French so I could call their help desk phone

The annoying thing is when I went to France three months ago my mate had a Télépéage transponder from another provider & it worked perfectly.

Guess I went with the wrong provider?

Dave.

hi stub101, I guess you are taking the A43 Chambéry - Lyon then. Right after exit 21 there is the Chignin Barriere which has a Télépeage sales office. Opening hours Mo - Fri 09:00h - 13:00h, 14:30 - 19:00h.

Not sure which side they are on though: East bound or West bound.

My transponder, which I got from SANEF, is working fine since 3 years.

frown I am so annoyed right now!!!
This is what it said during signup because I went through it again with fake info:
[quote]
Pay your bill by credit card first and then follows by direct debit from your bank account.
Enter your credit card number on our secure site to pay your first bill and then send us your bank details within 15 days and a debit authorization (downloadable document at the end of command). By choosing this payment method, you will receive your badge in four days.
Note: If your bank account comes to us outside of this period, your next invoice (invoices before receipt of the BIR and debit authorization) will be deducted from your credit card. For details, see the special conditions of sale over the Internet accessible from this site.
despite this note being there when I signed up, it says they will simply take it from your credit card if you don't send it to them.

What a way to run a business!!!!!!!!!!!

VINCI are happy to send the transponder to the UK.

They have taken my credit card details & they are guaranteed payment.

Yet it seems they have cancelled my transponder.

What a complete waste of time.

Time for me to put this nonsense behind me and enjoy the TVR, wine & great food.

I guess I'm back to sitting in a que?

I know, and the fact they now say what I said above, that If they don't receive them in time they will simply bill your credit card. Grr!
PS if anyone needs to ring them sign up at www.18185.co.uk then it's cheap.

Well I've sent them a message stating what it says on the website when you sign up, and I seem to remember natwest offering international direct debits so I'm going to ring them tomorrow and ask about that (as I have an ISA with them it wouldn't take long to open a current account with them) so that we can have a fallback plan depending on what they say.

I tried to sign up with a Natwest account in both sterling and €uro and they didn't want to know.

Ok

Does anyone know how long APRR take to arrive as I'm tempted to just order one of them and return the VINCI one.
We go on the 30th.

Hi all,
Sadly I don't have good news for anyone on this subject but thought I'd tell you what I've just discovered.

I used to have one of these transpoders eons ago and it was fine to pay by credit card and collect from any Autoroute service station.

Then they appear to have changed the rules, meaning that only French bank account owners could have one. Then they appear to have changed the rules back again!

But now, the news I have as of today, 27th July 2010, is this.

I called the number on the Alis website referred to in an earlier post. You MUST have a French bank account.

I then spoke with a French friend of mine who lives in Paris. He has called some of the other providers and has been told that, in theory, you can pay by international credit card, but only until December, when they are changing back to a 'French bank account only' system. The customer service lady wasn't too happy about it herself; she could easily foresee all the problems they were going to have from January onwards.

So, if you're English, Belgian, Swiss, Germany, Dutch...forget it; very shortly you won't be able to use any form of telepeage device.

"Vorspung durch technik" as the Germans would say!

Apparently Liber-T are concerned about the credit risk from credit card companies and would rather take the credit risk of French banks!!

For anyone even remotely connected with finance (or that reads the newspapers) it is clear just how ridiculous this is. The Liber-T lady did say they were hoping to change it back again during 2011 but there were no guarantees. It is truely an original French Farce!

My Télépéage transponder has been consigned to the bin.

I now have SWMBO fully trained in the art of negotiating the French toll gates.

I am finding that dispatching a trained wife for these duties to be infinitely more reliable than a Télépéage transponder.

However my SWMBO is also a rather annoying speed reduction device.

SWMBO: "Slow down, slow down, why do you have to be the fastest on the motorway?"

ME: "It a bloody TVR darling!"

HAPPY DAYS!

It could be a bit late for some of you guys, but it seems that now Senef require you to have a French bank account. I don't know if this will effect people who got theirs before. However I have just got one from APRR You can get it on line. web address: -www.telepeagepourtous.fr/fr/particular/souscrire From them the deposit is 10 euros (returned when you return the transponder). If you agree to on line billing, the monthly charge is 1.5 euros but only for the months you use it plus toll charges of course, or if you want paper bills 2 euros per month paid by direct debit. I ordered on a Saturday and it arrived on Thursday.
