I was under the impression they used a 24v twin turbo V6 for the race S? Then again, I suppose the YB was a lighter alternative. As a matter of fact, I'm sure there's a YB S going around somewhere , and I reckon a conversion (given the right materials) won't be any harder than many other engine choices.

Where those available in '87? The only reason I mention this is because it would have been weird to reach into a ten year old, overseas parts bin. B. I see what you mean, but it was Penske uprights front & rear not dampers, and it seems that was what Chris Schirle was familiar with according to the interview, from his previous experience with Formula Ford and Sports 2000 and he concluded; '... the Penske upright dimensions suited the geometry we'd drawn out and absolved us going to special castings.' Nice! Thanks for the further elaboration. That's a game changer. Now, if anybody has pictures of the rolling chassis, they won't fall under "nude" or "art" headings but rather "naked" and "porn." Well, I'm ready. B.

Shocks were Koni adjustables. Wheels were lovely splitties but an odd size so only bizarre rally spec tyres were available. Engine was Ford Cosworth YB (unsure if YBB or YBD, but I think it had the smaller turbo) built by Terry Hoyle to > Gp.A spec (all steel motor). 520bhp capable but ran circa 450bhp for longevity. Incredibly noisy. Only ever raced by my old man whilst it was owned by TVR. Went to Scotland, then France and now in Japan IIRC...

There was a Fast Lane supplement with a chassis picture, don't have a copy now but someone must have one.

Graham said: propshaft lifed at 48 minutes... jesus.... Journalistic flourish applied there I think. The first time the car ran (at all) was in Macau in November '87, (no shakedown, no testing, nothing) and it spat the propshaft after a few minutes (a knuckle dislocated or some such). This was fixed and as far as I know, the car never had a replacement propshaft. I'll proffer more info after speaking to my dad - he's on holiday ATM...
