xactly he is blamed for everything but he did try to get the quality of the Sagaris correct before doing anything else. Problems were there in Wheler's era but no one likes to mention that.
This is the sad truth. NS is the fool who bought the parrot.

Please don't think I'm speaking ill of the dead but Peter Wheeler certainly appeared to be one of those incredibly energetic and enthusiastic entrepreneur type personalities who built TVR into a minor icon ... however unfortunately he also built it into a position where it simply could not ever possibly hope to continue as it was and to make the transition into a "modern" car would have required a paradigm shift in the cars, the factory and the workforce as well as one hell of a lot of investment in new tools (development tools I mean, not spanners), new production techniques, new safety equipment and a resultant diluting of the TVR "DNA"...

I'm sure that we would have all made TVR "work" if we'd had the chance (just like my dad could manage his favourite football team to victory in every match if he had the chance) but at the end of the day Smolenski was sold a fish that had been landed for a few days, had glassy eyes and was at best "on the turn".

Or - more succinctly - an ex-parrot.

He just hadn't realised that it was already dead. biggrin

I think you're right there Phil. For me, A TVR is an extension of my first car, a Lotus 7. It was one of Chapmans finest statements, simple and pure in design and finished article, and, in my opinion, one of the best British sportscars ever conceived and built smile

The simplicity of cars like Lotus, AC (the Cobra being possibly the best drivers (read nutters) car ever), and TVR is (to me) testament to the fact that we know what makes proper drivers cars great. Simple recipe, simply executed....

Big V8 up the front, rear wheel drive, manual box and no electric wizadry to help you out.... reminds me of things like pasta and red wine, fish and chips, morrocan lamb and cous cous...... and maybe parrot and roasties......

Feck it, I'm even getting a warm fuzzy feeling about Griffs...
