Spitfire/GT6 nose-in-the-air

Can this be easily sorted? I know it shouldn't, but it bothers me!

Not exactly sure what you're talking about. Are you saying you find the bonnet to be a bit high on your car? If you are there's a couple of things to try.

1. Check the mountings in the front hinge boxes. Is it just mounted at the top of the adjustment?
2. Replace the springs/dampers with some lowered/uprated one, preferably AVOs with the adjustable spring seats. You can then raise/lower the front of the car.

The rear leaf spring tends to sag with time and this makes the car appear nose high. This is more apparent as some of the replacement springs are of poorer quality than original. You can just try replacing the rear spring, also substituting different springs (eg Herald into a spitfire can give good results). If you spend enough money then you can get a stiffer but de cambered spring.

I forgot to mention that the usual solution is to go for a stiffer spring and then a spacer block on top of the diff to bring the ride height back down. Look at the Canley classics pages. I couldn't find a picture of any of mine when the rear was actually very soft.

Commonest reason for a high fronted Spitfire/GT6 is replacement shock absorbers with spring seats too high. Many sold on eBay as 'for Spit/GT6' when they are in fact for cars with different suspension. The difference isn't great but is exaggerated by the geometry.

The spring seat should be 82mm above the centre of the bush eye.
