i brought a Spitfire a few yeas ago as a project - usual story(i didnt do anything with it) anyway checking through, i find it was imported into the UK from Jersey in 1986 meaning its not eligible for Non Road Tax. I emailed DVLA and told them that Triumph didnt make spitfires after 1980 and so should be exempt. They said i need to prove it with one of the following:
- an extract from the manufacturer/factory record - these will have the chassis number of the vehicle against the month and year of production*
- an extract from the 'Glasses guide' - which is a comprehensive guide on production dates and includes chassis numbers.
- a dating letter that is accompanied by an extract from or references the "Trader Handbook"* An extract from the Trader handbook alone is not acceptable.
  • A certified copy of the factory record (with the embedded stamp) will be acceptable only from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT).
anyone know how to do this? seems mad as a simple check on the internet will tell them this.
I want to sell it but think that this may restrict the sell..

Yep, a Heritage Certificate should give you everything to need - and if you're still having issues join one of the clubs, like the TSSC and they should be able to help.
