TR6 Racer nearly ready to roll
Discussion
Watching the video that's all very depressing from my point of view Jon Are you sure you only have 210bhp? You must have masses of torque judging by the amount of gear changes you were making, either that or you have a very well set up car, cast iron gonads or all three. Well done and I'll look out for you at Brands.

Well like I said I am coming round to the idea that they do not make 250+bhp like myself and a few other thought even with every trick bit under the sun in it. And it is heavy with a long final drive (just ordered my 4.1 to replace the 3.9) and extra tuning will be done in next few days - should be a good bit faster maybe with 230bhp (we thought it woul make 240+ straight out of the box!) Tim
It does have Close ratios and one of the few running overdrive as well (specially valved though)!
See you at Brands. I have a google vid with your car on it I think from last year there.
I never really know whether to trust some of the power figures some people say they have. The 3 D-type drivers in the race in your video all reckon they have 300bhp, yet their engines are set up the same as mine (apart from Bob Lines) and we all lap at a similar pace (depending on our moods on the day) and I only have 221bhp to 246bhp depending on the rolling road I use. I am more interested in torque figures though as I don't like revving much above 5500RPM.
I tried a search for the Brands vid but couldn't find anything. What editing programs do you use, your You-Tube video is quite good quality for a 15 minute video.

I had to try hard to get past Bob! Best start in front of him next time!
They recon they saw 7500 on the rollers last week (but it is all still and a 6 has fairly small pistons and light rods). I change at 6600 and try not to go over 7 though. Should live to 8000 (but not exactly like it!). (Std (non billet crank - don't ask£!) one could break any where from 6300 - 6600 if using these revs regularly).
Clock is ticking - already planning my lines for the race

I remember that race well, I had a carb problem and it wouldn't rev above 4.5K without bogging down. I remember when you came past me the first time as I was trying to get by the red MGB and you and the other TR really stuffed me up .
I can't risk revving mine much over 6K as the bottom end is pretty much standard and I have had balance problems quite a lot so. I may build a 3.8 engine which should be good for 6.5 to 7k with no problems.
falcemob - get it done (rev'able 3.8) is it on triple webbers?
http://video.google.com/videoplay?doc - put the wrong right beat Mike.
Just have to do it in the 6 now hehehe.

TR4 has never been reliable enough to win a class let alone overall championship!
For the record...Mick Richards won the Championship twice in his TR4. 1987 and 1988.
And I should know, having been Mick's partner in crime for years. The car in question was 1235 KY and affectionately known as "Trevor's twin", Trevor being Mick's roadgoing TR4.
1235 KY was then sold to Pat Watson and driven to Championship victory in 1988 by Chris Conoley, again under TRAKWAY sponsorship.
Two other TR4s were reliable enough to win overall titles in 1984 and 1986 as well, driven by Steve Hall and Peter Cox respectively.
Steve also won his class in 1987, 88, 89 and 1993. All in TR4s.
Mick went on to win the Championship in 1991, 92 and 93, driving a TR7 V8 on these occasions.
Richard Wright took the title in 1990 in a TR6.
Remember Reg Woodcock in his TR3?
Any and all varieties of TR can be very reliable if developed sensibly and built properly.
Geoff.

And I think you will find things have moved on in terms of how fast a 4 can be made to go - well mine anyway is so much faster than any other one I have come across. Yes I know all about Pete's and Steve's battles in there 4 in the 80's (that is what got me to buy mine).
My car last time at Thruxton was faster than the Top V8's (Graham Miller in Colins car - that was at the time of Micks V8 (when it was winning) similarly fast and got a good bit faster when Mick had packed it in), and that was without the revalved OD bolted to the back of my CR box. But it is "So" developed (more money on the head than alot spend on an engine), it does breakdown occasionally and have to be refettled.
+ I have long since not been interestied in championships - waste of time at this level as I only go to the tracks I like and / or that are in the South / Midlands. Richard Wright for instance - only ever seemed to do Oulton post his championship win (1 or 2 races).
For the record I think Simon Knowles car is the fastest (stupidly light for a 6 and gboxs like ours and several different diffs and ratios to drop in for each track) out there (maybe not Simon - although on his day his is blinding) - you get Joe, or Graham, Mike H or me in it and we could beat the V8's in the Register and the Thoroughbreds at more than some tracks. The fastest 6 combo out there is Joe and Churches old car, but then he is a madman!
We coul loose 75kg off our car over night but of our 6 but we do not want to strip it that much - well my father doesn't!
Bully's car was probably the best 6 cylinder car built that I know of in the last 10+ years.
For the Record I am even trying to get Pete C out in our 6 at somepoint this or next year. He is never going to get that damned engine Darryl has been promising him for year in the Silver Bullet again. THAT is my fav car and could be the fastest 4 again - but I can't see it happening, Darryl is not going to suddenly turn an engine up and it certainly will not be as powerful as the one in my 4.

Dinkel thread on SPA spunds good will chivvy me along to enter!
The few really fast 6's can beat 90% of the astons - but the other 10% ARE REALLY FAST (+ change hands for 1/2 a million quid).
AMOC are a pain in the ass though - there did not enter one bloody car in the race in the video and it was a bloody AMOC meeting!

I will do that race some year - but only when car can beat Joe's
Since last time out.
One day we will have changed it all and can just get on and race it more!
New custom loom (with banks of fuse to replace the std useless junk that come with it as std), ditched screen for the one in pic, doors off for plastic, hood off, alloy front hubs. Huge reduction in frontal area and and 70kg less weight That is as far as father will go and I think as far as it needs go - most still lighter bar Joe's (but he has top Power to push his heavier car).
