Hi all, I have a Spitfire Mk1 which I plan on totally restoring, the story behind it goes it was bought by a friend of mine over 30 years ago (after being put through a hedge by an over enthusiastic mechanic on a test drive) and was put in the back of a building on a farm where my friend began to respray it and repair it, however the job never got finished and it has been there ever since, cue Joey

I recently acquired the car and plan on completing the car to its totally original state (bar standard spitfire suspension ) However when the car was crashed a new bonnet was put on the car, problem being it is a fiberglass one and I really want a genuine steel one, or preferably an aluminum one, basically a proper metal one. I know Rimmer Bros do all the panels to make up the Bonnet but does anyone know of anyone that manufactures a complete bonnet???

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Cheers all.

Give someone like Canley Classics (www.canleyclassics.com/) a call. They seem to list the Mk III bonnet @£750 and I don't think there were any major differences between 1/2/3.

I was part way through dismantling it 20 years ago then moved away from home to work so it never got finished. My parents bought it for me when I was 14, my dad and i did a kind-of rebuild on it so I could use it at school once i'd passed my test, it was prety cool but my friend had a toyota 1600 twincam and we were all jealous lol! I don't want to sell the bonnet, it's full of filler anyway Good luck with your resto
