Could anyone help with the problem i have been having with my TR6 running on when its turned off?
Have tried advancing/retarding the ignition to no avail. Have tried colder plugs. I have stripped and cleaned the distributor.
Could it be a problem with the stage two head that has been fitted?
Any ideas would be gratefully received!!
With thanks

Has the problem started since the head was fitted? Most probable cuase is normally timing but if you now have higher compression it could be a back pressure from a restricted exhaust or maybe an air leak somewhere. Does it have carbs of fuel injection?

The engine is injected, it also has electronic ignition.
It has been on a rolling road and it was found to "lean out" at high rpm. It ran out of advance at 24 degrees. When the timing was adjusted on the rolling road it made it pink.

24 degrees of top end advance doesn't sound too good, I would have thought more along the lines of 35 to maybe 40 degrees for a tuned engine.
I don't know anything about the injection system on these engines so cant help with the top end leaning out.

hi, the fact wether it is injected or carb does not make any difference. the mixture is finding an ignition source when the ignition is off. could be the higher compression is generating enough heat to result in detonation, as in a diesel engine. the other cause can be carbon build up on the head or valves resulting in "hot spots" however as this is a new head i doubt. try lowering the compression ratio by fitting a thicker head gasket.

I would buy a cheap stethscope and make your way round all the inlet manifold. THat much ignition advance/retard is not good!

Stage 2 head? Any other mods? No wonder it isn't running right you need a recalibrated Metering unit! Ps max advance should be around 32-34 degrees anything more is a waste of a time on the triumph lump. I can point you in the right direction for MU calibration if need be
