Nokian tyres any good,
Discussion
I wonder if someone could tell me if Nokian tyres are any good, it's just that I'm a bit tight on cash at the moment but don't really like the idea of putting a couple of Chinese ditch finders on the car.
I was looking online and a tyre company local to me had a couple of Nokian Hr tyres for a very cheap price of £46 each for a 205/60/15 wheel size.

Thanks for the info,
The car is having them fitted on Friday, I think the reason they were cheap is because they were the last two.
I couldn't work out why they were cheaper than the Chinese branded stuff but I guess it's because they can't do a full set.
Which is great for me as I only want two new tyres on the back.

I had them fitted today all in for £91 for the two, I'm very impressed as its being peeing down here so the bomb cratered roads are a bit slippery and the back end stayed sure footed.
But saying that I generally don't push the car much anyway as its a cabriolet so it's better for wafting along than driving flat out into the corners.
Plus running a 2.3 5 pot can get expensive if I put my foot down too much.
Thanks for the advice on the tyres.

I ran Nokians for some two years on a 230bhp + vehicle around 15 + years ago and yes, they did do the job until I sold the car at around two and a half years on.
I'm now driving a 2011 NC MX5 that I have home fitted the BBR/Cosworth kit to. Their supercharger kit provides in excess of 260 bhp and well over 200 lb/ft torque happily, certainly 20k miles+ now.
I also, in talks with Neil in 2014 elected to fit their bespoke suspension kit including Racing beat ARBs and adjustable drop links to ensure no pre-stress on the ARBs. The result is remarkable really and I am currently looking to replace my current tyres,215x 45x17 on Schmidt CC line one piece rims (stunning wheels really)I believe akin to the old revolution rims of the sixties & seventies?
I had previously ran and still have a nice set of Team Dynamics. Size is 7.5" x 17" x 45 offset, please get to grips with offset, I cannot state how important getting your offset correct within 10mm on the MX5 anyway. The NC runs with 55 standard offset. Run less than -10mm i.e. 45 mm offset or less and if you intend to drive the car seriously then you may find it an uncontrollable mess.
It is a very sad fact that so many (ahem) knowledgeable people completely ignore the fundamentals and the extreme basics of suspension geometry in their quest for a good handling car. They may find that they run in the extreme, a basic runner with ste tyres on a well set up geometry. Conversely a poorly (not so many understand this basic requirement) set up on the best tyres out there can make for a death trap!!
It is not difficult honestly.
Cheers,
S.
