Took my Sep 09 GTS Auto for MOT yesterday.

It failed because the parking brake had such low efficiency that when the rear wheels were raised off the floor and the parking brake applied, the wheel could be rotated with one finger!! There was definitely some resistance compared to when the parking brake was released, but it is probably best described as two tenths of bu**er all really.

Not a huge problem in everyday life due to the auto box of course, but needs sorting to get the MOT passed.

The mechanism is working, so I suspect a need for considerable adjustment or new pads.

The parking brake is separate from the main wheel brakes it would seem - the normal brakes passed no problem

So, does anyone know if - 1. It is possible to adjust the set up of the parking brake and if so how or 2. What sort of job replacing the pads on the parking brake is or 3. If I am barking up the wrong tree and it is something else.....

Without stripping down the mech and inspecting, there is no way to try and guess what is wrong.

It could be anything, but probably a seized mech. Whether that's a caliper or internal drum mechanism, just depends what is used on that specific vehicle.
