Same here - my local independents have always done this at quietish periods - £10/corner is typical.
+1 And my chap actually uses a torque wrench rather than that terrible air gun.
My local place is much the same. £8 inc vat per corner to fit, valve and balance tyres/wheels.
It's an indie ( http://www.carservicingromsey.co.uk/ ), but I'm sure there will be equivalents in your neck of the woods.

I use my local National to remove-refit tyres all the time. I did once buy a new trailer tyre from them to try to even up the balance hehe

If you don't mind going to Dartford, Martyn @ Scott's Performance would do it for you - 01322 294431.

I buy tyres online because the winter tyres I want are in stock now at a sensible price, but they won't be at the end of November when I expect to need them. They are in the garage ready for the severe weather warnings, or when the current 3mm tread all round gets to 2 or less.

I generally pay £10/corner for fitting, balancing and disposal. I think I've been turned away once and quoted £20/corner once - each time I drove another mile or so and got the tyres fitted there. I've always paid cash and never thought to phone ahead, so it may have a lot to do with the tyre fitter being quiet at the time - I wouldn't have stopped if they were busy.

ETA I paid £108 each at the end of September. They dropped to £106 within hours (grrr) but are up to £115 already.

Oh - one other thing to think of. If you want your alloys sorted out, you could combine that with getting the tyre fitted, alloy refurb places usually include that in the price.

Go to a local independent garage instead of a tyre fitting specialist who doesn't want to encourage people to buy online (for obvious reasons). The garage who services my cars is happy to swap tyres around for me or fit parts I have purchased online. He just writes "parts supplied by customer" on the invoice.

If I can buy a tyre online for £50 then I don't see why a garage will claim they cannot buy it that cheaply. They could also buy it online from the same place at the same price then charge me for fitting it.

Why would a business sell a product for the same amount they paid for it?

If there's a polish car wash/partworn & remold tyre place near you they will almost certainly fit for £10. If not Maidstone tyres and exhausts definitely will but its a bit of a trek for you.

Try a mobile tyre fitting service. Just tried a Google search for 'mobile tyre fitters Bromley' and it came up with several promising leads via Yell. Worth a phone call or two? Won't have to schlep round as they come to you at home or work etc.

I buy tyres on-line and get them fitted by a mobile tyre fitter who happens to live 5 miles away (which is fortunate as I live in the middle of nowhere!)

I pay £15 a corner which include removal of wheel from car + dismounting tyre, fit tyre to rim/new valve/balance/ & fit wheel on to car + dispose of old tyre.

They don't have to, but there is still profit in fitting it with equipment they already own.

The problem is I have had an independant tyre place tell me that they cannot buy stock for as cheap as it is bought from online, when they could just use the same source.

Interestingly Kwik Fit can't supply tyres ordered in garage as cheap as they can when pre-booked on their website.
They were also cheaper to pre-book than buying online and fitting afer a cashback deal (£20 back on Goodyear Eagle F1 Ass2).

My rear tyres are being fitted tomorrow at a local garage for £10/corner.

Because they can charge you extras, as in this case a fitting service.

They then are seen to be "price matching" and therefore providing a good service which builds a relationship with the customer who then tells all their mates/family how good the service is ensuring repeat and further custom.

I had the rears changed years back at the Garage in Beckenham opposite the slug and lettuce for £20, think they've changed hands now so not sure if they still do but it's worth a call as they are in the same borough.

One of the reasons they refuse is liability if something goes wrong after it has been fitted. Who does the customer blame? Usually the fitter but it is a difficult situation so tyre places don't want to fit customer supplied tyres.

I don't know..

If you bought a tyre from a garage and they fitted it, and it then suffered a catastrophic failure such that they were left liable in some way, I'm pretty sure the investigation would go as far as to identify whether it was the fitting or the tyre that was at fault, as I doubt any garage would want to pick up the buck of a case like that if they couldn't pass it onto the tyre manufacturer.

Equally, supply your own tyre, and it's marked as such in the book of the garage, then in the event of a failure, the investigation would again go into whether it was a failure of the tyre or of the fitting.

£10 a corner no issues at all and I've done it for years always in dependants.
