Following the replacement of the front and rear discs and pads on the manky old camry shed the brake warning light on the dash refuses to go out. (No abs light abnormality and it now stops gurt lush (compared to before))

I suspected that was just the master reservoir float switch playing up* BUT having pulled the wire to the sensor the light still illuminated (not a surprise as would imagine it is set to fail safe). Having shorted the plug with some structural paperclip the light still illuminated at which point I have begun to doubt my diagnosis.

The pin switch for the handbrake looks clean and not full of coffee, hulahoops and ice cream. I can just get a finger to it through the gap and have given it a vigorous prodding, but no further testing.

Other than those 2 points, where else could a warning signal be sent from to illuminate the light? I just want to check that these are the only 2 "signal generators" on the system and I'm not missing something obvious before I take off the master cylinder reservoir and handbrake cowl.

I've looked for a relevant wiring diagram to no avail on tinternet and am currently a bit stumped, so any advice welcomed.

Thanks
Dan

  • because the backs were done first and whilst driving away the warning light illuminated on the dash. Stopped, topped up the reservoir (even though it wasn't low) and then the light went out. Replaced the fronts the following weekend and the light came on and refused to go out.

Are there any pad wear sensors on this car?
