Replacement Disc / Pad question.

Hi,
Car is a 2005 Mazda 6, 60k, used just for commuting and shopping, average yearly 6k.

At 60k /10 years the discs are showing signs of age and the pads are getting low. I'm going to replace the whole lot (or rather I'll get them done ) but I'm not sure whether to go genuine Mazda parts or pattern.

I can get a set of 4 Ferodo discs for about 85 quid, Bosch coming in a bit more (by 50 quid) . I'll match the pads to the discs, again about 30 to 40 quid a set for pads. so roughly 150 quid for the gear (Ferodo) or 200 (Bosch) plus 1.5 hours labour quoted to fit them all.

My question is should I just go for the cheaper option like "BOLK" (never heard of them) or TRW Whom I understand are Pagid under a different name, OEM, or am I spot on with my intended choice?.
I thought 1.5 hours to fit all 4 discs and sets of pads is fair, which includes using new clips etc.

I'll have the old discs plus a couple of batteries to weigh in to mitigate the cost!.

ps I can't use the pound sign because this keyboard is set to American and I've no idea how to change it…sorry guys.

In your position I would go for the Bosch parts. I have come to see lesser known brand parts as false economy on a car.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think there would be much difference between Bosch and ferodo, but definitely a massive difference between Bosch and BOLK.

Do you think Bosch or ferodo are the better option than genuine mazda?. To be fair I haven't obtained a price from mazda yet, but they're not the cheapest genuine parts.

For the sake of 50 quid I might go for the Bosch units, and keep the pads matched as well. If I keep the car another 5 years they should last and it works out at an extortionate £10 per year over the ferodo.

I've heard and seen some horror stories about the cheap stuff available on eBay, as you say false economy and buy cheap buy twice.

I doubt there's much to choose between them, or any of the Japanese companies like Denso etc. Are you buying from Eurocarparts or similar? They usually have good offers.

Stick with the well known brands and you wont have an issue. Ive always put mintex on my cars which probably isnt the product it once was but ive never had an issue.
Nothing wrong with ferrodo, pagid etc so just go with the most reasonably priced, just stay away from the likes of eicher from euro car parts.

Thanks for the replies. I'm getting them ( probably go for Ferodo) from mr auto and as luck would have it, they're doing 15% off brakes and pads plus free delivery on orders over £50 so I think that's pretty fair. Discs and pads all round, fitted for around £300 isn't a bad day out I guess.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but what are peoples views on Vetech. One of the more budget brands but I have always found them to be OK.
