Hi All,

I'm after some help on my 2007 Renaultsport Megane 225, I'm hoping I'll get more useful responses posting on here as a general forum, as the Megane specific forums elsewhere online are pretty much dead!

Anyway I've been chasing a rotational noise since I got the car a few months back, I was adamant it was the drivers side front wheel bearing, that has been replaced but the noise is still there, I've also switched the wheels round on the drivers side to try to rule out a tyre issue, this made no difference.

The tyres on the car are Hankook Ventus V12 EVO's and nearly new (though they were fitted before I got the car).

The noise seems to be more or less apparent depending on the road surface, and is that typical wheel bearing sound increasing with speed, one useful bit of info is that when I go round left hand corners the noise all but disappears, but on right hand corners the noise becomes more pronounced, in a straight line it's a steady consistent noise. Is this common with worn wheel bearings when loaded/unloaded? If so am I right in saying this would point to an issue on the drivers side?

My next idea was going to be to replace the rear wheel bearings (the bearings are located within the rear discs on these cars so will just replace the rear discs).

Aside from that the only possible thing I can think of is having all the tyres rotated/rebalanced etc.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

The symptoms are consistent with wheel bearings

The harmonic nature of the noise can make it hard to pinpoint which corner though

Some roughness, play or noise may be detectable at the wheel rim if you jack up each corner and give it a spin / wobble

That said, my line of thought would be if one front bearing is on it's way out the other won't be far behind and the rears are easy / cheap...

Wheel balance will make no difference although I wouldn't rule out the possibility of it being a tyre issue just yet unless the car has done enough miles that bearing wear could be expected.

Try on or more, none are dead.

Can't suggest what it could be myself sadly, only common issue might be the hub bearing but that'd be unusual to cause a period noise imo

Great thanks guys!

I've a few other bits to check but will most likely replace the rear discs (and therefore both rear wheel bearings) next.

Grumpy Twig, appreciate the links, I'd seen links to this site from various google searches but whenever I clicked on them it took me to a different page, strange.. anyway this forum looks really good and much better than the meganesport forum I'd found prior to posting!

Ah yeh.. if that was http://www.rsmegane.com/ links I've been trying to get them to fix that for months.... gave up but as long as you don't follow links directly from google it's fine.
