Tyre technology has matured - there has been no great advance since the development of synthetic based compounds
I love this bit, especially as it completely ignores that materials engineering/development has been an area of massive development and advances for the past 30 years or so and shows little sign of slowing yet.We have tyres available now that even 10 years ago would be unthinkably soft for use as a road compound, yet they still have the same level of endurance.

You've not explicitly stated that these are great tyres, but you have tried your hardest to convince people they are by pointing out e.g. what a super modern factory they are made in, and how premium tyre manufacturers don't have any advantage in R&D etc.
The modern factory is a fact - it does actually exist. It's not like it's a figment of someone's imagination, and as for the R&D perspective that is a reality too.r11co said:
Tyre technology has matured - there has been no great advance since the development of synthetic based compounds, and the machinery and technology required to analyse and construct these compounds is just as if not more likely to be found in the modern factories of the far east (which is why the established brands have all built their newest production facilities there). There is no technical or intellectual barrier to far eastern companies producing competent products.
No advances in tyre technology any more, we've hit the ceiling on carcass design, tread materials and tread design? Sometimes if you come out with complete horse poo in a very confident way you can convince people who are easily led. Not this time however.r11co said:

Where does the cynicism in the thread come from do you think? People's previous experiences with st Chinese tyres. Ask yourself why do st Chinese tyres even exist if it's apparently so easy to make tyres which are as good as the premium manufacturers ones?
I take you back to my first post...r11co said:
I've never heard of Davanti but as someone has already said it looks like a 'brand' attached to a Far Eastern manufactured tyre. To some that is enough for them to be condemned as ditchfinders based on herd mentality backed up with an anecdotal experience of a probably completely unrelated product from some time ago, or more even second or third hand knowledge of such anecdotes.
I'm being utterly consistent here in presenting information. nickfrog said:
Without generalising too much, but having visited a supposedly reputable tyre fitting operation today, it reminded me not to take any notice of anything that members of that "profession" have contributed here.
I've been disappointed on several visits to similar establishments. Shiny premises and coffee machines and magazines in the waiting area are no guarantee that you won't be fed a load of BS and be charged for non-existent work.Being charged for four wheel alignment on a car with no facility to adjust the rear geometry was a favourite. They even produced a result sheet that showed the rear geometry had changed, but back-pedalled rather quickly when I asked to see where the adjusters were and just charged me for tracking (which is all they'd done).

No I didn't. That is your own creative interpretation of what I actually have said.Point out otherwise. Go on...

Correction, you are being utterly consistent in presenting some half baked opinions about about tyre technology being so stagnant that no one has any competitive edge any more so anyone can knock out decent tyres, and that the newness of a factory is somehow related to the quality of the goods it produces.
Again, another creative interpretation of what I actually said. Why the great lengths to affirm the status quo and discredit a new product you've no experience of? Is it such a cultural shock for you to accept that things can move on? That Japan/Korea/China does not equate to inferior?
I mean, what relevance does this off topic comment have....

Ah yes, I know. It is to discredit the opinions of independent tyre retailers so that anything said by them can be ignored by yourselves, just leaving your own opinions to stand. Same way as someone tried to allege (incorrectly) I was a shill for the industry. To whit I'll add some unrelated service.No-one has said these are the greatest tyres on the planet, but the way you guys want to condemn them it is as if their brand manager insulted your scented granny or something.
When this thread started I had never heard of the brand. I still know nothing empirical about their products, but I'll tell you this - all credit to them for having a go at the unenviable task of trying to establish a brand presence against the Luddite mindset of some of the dinosaurs inhabiting these forums.

I've nothing to add other than I passed what looked like a brand new Davanti tyres van on the A174 on Teesside on the way home tonight.
I'm assuming, from the speed the driver took the Acklam exit at, the van wasn't shod with Davanti tyres as he didn't end up off the road in the ditch...

[/quoteHave you ever read the Viz? It's a paper based print format which combines pictures and words which in the vernacular is referred to as a comic. In said "comic" is a character called Mr Logic. You may wish to acquaint yourself with his mellifluous overtures as they may resonate. Or indeed they may not. I can only state the logical outcome of this situation.

Seriously ? Why spend the cash on a 535d and then put cheap tyres on it - does not compute.
Would you say £100 plus a corner was cheap tyres? and please don't say they are crap unless you have actually had some fitted yourself.I'm no spring pup anymore and my by racing days have long gone and even if I dislike these tyres for what "I" paid for them or should I say what "I" didn't pay for them another brand of tyre in the summer wouldn't hurt my pocket.Edited by ljw2k on Tuesday 9th February 02:43
OP the problem here is that your original post came across as dictating that they are good tyres.
If I were you I'd be ordering some Falken FK453 from camskill front and rear and getting your friendly tyre man to fit them for you, fitting balancing etc shouldn't be more than £10/corner.
Eta so you've had them fitted. I thought you said you'd come here for advice?!?
