Mondeo - insensitive brake pedal
Discussion
Hi,
I bought a nice, shiny Mondeo Titanium X 2009 automatic,
I noticed that the brake pedal is much less sensitive than in my wife's S-Max.
It does work well if you floor it, and it's not the "lack of hydraulics" issue that causes a very stiff pedal.
It's not very bad, but annoying enough in traffic.
So - if I were to book it in with a garage, what would I ask them to replace? Discs look ok, the pads weren't mentioned in the MOT sheet, so I assume they'll be fine as well.
And yes, it does slow down nicely to an emergency stop if I press it hard enough.
Is there like a line between the pedal and something that could go create a bit of resistance, that could be replaced?

Is it just a long pedal before you get any brake force, is it spongy as you press it harder or is it just no 'bite'?
If it's a long pedal it could just be heavily worn pads and discs, or even wheel bearings causing excessive clearance
If it's spongy then it needs bleeding, could be a leak somewhere. If no air to be found when bleeding there could be some stuck in the ABS unit if the system has been run dry or had bits replaced, and will need cycling with a suitable diagnostic machine
If it's no bite then it could be heavily worn pads or cheap pattern pads with a crap compound
Think that about covers it... If the pedal is just too heavy then chances are there's something wrong with the servo, the vacuum lines feeding it or the booster pump if it has one.

It's quite spongy I'd say, it might be something due to the fact the car was driven very rarely before I bought it, had something like a 6 month lack of usage.I guess I'll flag it up next time I book it in at the garage.
Thanks
