Hi,

I believe that my Skoda Fabia needs the droplinks replacing (knocking sound and had been advised this from seller). It's also just had a piece of the spring coil snap off so it will need that replacing as well.

I'm getting quotes from garages (I'm not really clued up on mechanics of cars) and just wanted to get an idea on how much this would usually cost including labour. The seller had told me it would be like £10 per droplink but the quotes I'm getting are now in the region of £100 for just one side... just want some advice to make sure I'm not getting ripped off :-/

Thanks,
Dan

Sounds way too much. It does depend on how easy they are to get to though. I would guess at £50 max per side, maybe even for both if easy. Plus parts obviously.

Springs are more likely closer to £100 per side and ideally both sides should be done.

Drop links shouldnt be too expensive....springs can be depending on where they're sourced.

Cheaper isnt always better though.

An hours labour for spring and 2 drop links if all goes well. Then parts, drop links will be £10 each possibly. £100 is not out of the way at all.

Getting drop links off can be a pig, on mine the captive bolt came loose and would not unscrew. I didn't DIY as I was busy with work, just gave it to the mechanic. He had a right game apparently, over an hour drilling out one side, half an hour the other. "But it's only 2 bolts, one at each end". On a new car, yes. 10 years on and they can be a right pig.
