What about run flats?

Do they work?
What is your expectation of "work" ?

Would they enable you to drive slowly to a safe place ? probably.

Would they enable you to continue as normal ? No.

And of course with runflats TPMS must be working to alert you of the loss of air.
Unfortunately, even that isn't idiot proof as many have heard the alarm, stopped the car, looked at the tyres & said "it'll be fine, they all look ok" then driven on & junked a tyre that could have been repaired.

I have runflats, no spare, and a foot pump, so hopefully if it is a puncture with a slowish pressure drop I plan to pump the tyre up as needed to get me home.

I have a twin piston pump to do the job quicker, no point in lifting my leg more than I need too.

If it is more than that and the tyre is damaged beyond being driveable then it is the breakdown service.

Sorry. Next question.

I recently bought this car. How can I tell if it has run flats on? Is there a notice on the side wall?

Get a space-saver spare wheel kit, e.g., from Road Hero. We're going touring in the Summer in our VW Sharan, and there’s no way in Hades I wish to be caught out in the middle of nowhere late some evening, with just a poxy can of foam for company.
