Hello and apologies for asking this question. I have done a search and i know it has been asked before but i couldnt fully understand exactly if i am allowed to or not.

I currently have a Hyundai i20 2015 which has 195/55/R16 91H tyres on which "because reasons" are significantly more expensive than other sizes.
Can i put 205/55/R16 94V tyres on the car?
I bought 4 x 205's from National (Halfords) but when the guy came to fit them, he looked at the car and refused to put them on as i had a different size tyres (195) on the car, he said it was illegal.
I have done some research online and cannot see anywhere that says it is illegal.
I know about the difference in Speedo but i've used a website which i saw in another post and the difference would be something like 1.77% which is not a lot.
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

That change should be okay, the issue (as you have already found) is that many tyres places won’t fit any tyres which are not the original size.
I find small independent tyre places are more accommodating of such changes.

Were 205s an optional fitment on different models of the same car?
If so, no reason why you shouldn't. Usual disclaimer that you should notify your insurance company if you fit them. (Personally I'd do it and say nothing).

It is not illegal he is talking utter b0ll0cks and should never be listened to again.

Yes, you can, it will be fine, your speedo will likely be more accurate afterwards, but lots of places don't like doing it.

It may well be fine, but if the requested tyre size is not on your cars tyre label (inside the door pillar, or fuel cap), then I can understand why they may choose not to fit the tyre.s

I am not disagreeing with you, hence why I said "but lots of places don't like doing it."

You should probably let your insurance company know.
