Thanks all.

I got home around 0800 and managed to get 6 hours sleep before my next shift.
The girlfriend ordered me a new tyre, which I'll have fitted on Monday, my next day off.

Luckily I have other cars to use!

But, lesson learned. I'll be ordering a space save and a set of jacks.

Undecided on whether I'll risk driving the car down to the tyre place. Given its only half a mile I reckon I'll be safe but also question whether it's worth risking it.

The pressure came out pretty quickly. I've driven mayne a quarter of a mile with under 10psi, from 50mph down to a crawling speed for the last 50-100m.
I should be ok, I hope.
Whenever I’ve had punctures repaired I’ve been asked if I’ve driven on it. Most of the time I have for a bit (to get to somewhere safe to stop) and so far not had to bin the tyre as a result. Used to be much easier in the “old” days when you could put the spare/space saver on!

Sometimes you can get lucky. This alloy was unharmed after a blowout at speed, but the profile of the tyre was sizeable and it was on the rear.

If your tyre lost all pressure that quickly I'd be more worried about the wheel rim being cracked or distorted than the tyre!

I'd whip the wheel off and even if I couldn't see any damage I'd want to get the rim checked before just getting a new tyre fitted.
