Re dyeing stitching

My car has red leather with yellow stitching which is now fading in places to a manky grey colour. I'd like to re dye the stitching to black but have no idea how to go about it. Any ideas?
I've so far tried a black permanent marker pen, which works well on the stitching but as you can imagine it also works on the leather as well and won't come off!
