I need to repaint some wishbones and uprights on off road racer. Looking to make the paint as durable as possible. So as the title says would increasing the hardner ratio increase the strength, or any other suggestions?

AFAIK more hardener can make it more brittle.

maybe try an industrial type paint rather than automotive.

The chassis builder for Caterham uses Hammerite as an alternative to powder coat where needed. Something like that may be your best option.

Try using flex additive, 2pack paint dries pretty hard but as has been said, it can also be fairly brittle, the flex additive will give it more of a chance to resist road-rash.

Thanks for the replies. I've used Hammerite before and don't think the adhesion is as good as 2k.

Rustman, I have a combination of mechanical wire brush stripped billet steel uprights, sanded 2K painted wishbones and new wishbones. Looking at data sheet the paint does adhere to smooth steel but not sure about overpainting.

To confirm it's not rust I'm worried about, it's some chipping and abrasion and resistance to repeated steam cleaning. So it comes down to whether the Epoxy mastic would do a better job than 2k with flex additive.

Epoxy mastic.. as used on ships will far outlast the 2 pack+flex additive.

A tip is.. find out who Jotun paint supplier is.. epoxymastic repair pack is what is being repackaged and sold for 100% markup .. about £70 for about 5 litre pack instead of £20/litre. Oh get their thinners too.. cheap and does for hammerite as well.
