A week after picking up my 'approved used' Lexus the just valeted smell is still lingering. It's like WD40. Having looked at the rubber front mats and plastic boot liner that's exactly what it feels and looks like too!
I removed them to find the drivers footwell is still damp and also smells of WD40. Looks like they've tried to remove a stain off the carpet and maybe some monkey has just emptied a bottle of chemicals onto the carpet, soaking it, then put the rubber mat back over the wet carpet!

Anyone know what stuff the dealer may have used and hence how long we can expect to suffer the stench? And can it be removed somehow?
On the phone the dealer just says turn the blower onto 'feet' to dry the carpet out!

I would take it back for them to sort out but its 200 miles away....

I would think you were spot on with that assumption, especially if it smells like WD-40. It will be that or a silicone based product that you can buy out of Asda or Tescos that should normally be applied to grey plastic bumpers and mouldings.

I would get a set of pongo's from halfords, (the happy face air fresheners, 3 for £1.49) and then while your there buy some fabric upholstery cleaner for where the mats were. As for the mats, I would pressure wash them off after squirting them with some sort of deagreasing agent, maybe even some wheel cleaner if that doesn't do it.
