Hi

I've just purchased a 2nd hand manifold which is in need of a good clean. It's got some bad surface dirt and discolouration. What is the best way to bring it back to life? or is it a job for a specialist?

Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks

Wrap it in heat wrap. wink

I like Mothers Mag and Alu polish. I put an old polishing pad on my DA and away I go.

I used wet n dry paper in progressively finer grades and a shed load of elbow grease with some very colourful language on my TVR Chims exhaust. The 'Y' peice at the front of of the engine is quite a focal point and I do like a clean engine, when I begun the pipes were almost black, the manifolds were not as easy to get to and I've got big hands with fingers like pigtits so I employed child labour in the form of my sons....they love to get involved really. Anyway after a little while the shine really comes through, almost chromed looking, well worth the time and effort then just kept up with a wipe and Autosol.
Once I could afford it though I had my engine stripped and powder coated and my manifolds and 'Y' piece ceramicaly coated, shiny for good now.
