Hi guys.

I'm going to be tackling my engine bay soon, which will involve prepping and spraying anything corroded, and most importantly, the rocker cover.

I'm looking to spray my rocker cover in an unusual colour. Yellow, Green and even baby blue have all ran through my mind. The only issue, is that most "heat resistant" paints only come in boring colours like silver or black. Would I be able to paint the cover with car paint, and then put heat resistant lacquer over it? All I want is a smooth, shiny finish.

Also, i will be using my bench grinder to polish up the corroded bolts in the bay. Is there a product I could put on them after polishing to stop them instantly corroding again?

Thanks a lot guys!

You will probably be fine using normal car paint on the rocker cover.
As for the bolts i cant think of any way to protect them cheaply other than painting them when they have been fitted. Otherwise i suppose electroplating would work.

Normal 2pack will be fine for a rocker cover. I've painted loads and never had a problem, just make sure its thoroughly degreased and well prepared.

Great thanks!

I've managed to find a great little product for stopping the exposed bolts from rusting. You spray on a tiny amount, and it creates a soft gel-like protective layer over the bolt. Can provide a link if wanted?

As for the rocker paint, will I have to use a high temparature primer and high temparature clearcoat? I want a nice glossy finish if possible.

Thanks!
