Paint stripping of stainless steel

My wife's E class estate had the rear bumper resprayed by the dealer before we bought it, and they did not mask off the tail pipes which are also painted black. I liked the look for a while but now want to take them back to polished stainless steel finish. Does Nitromors work on modern paint (what do paint shops use now - is it still cellulose or is it water based?)? (I will take the pipes off the car before commencing work!).

FYI automotive paint used to be oil based and is now water based.
