Recreating a crackle paint finish

How would we go about recreating the finish in this picture?

I know it may not be the look most people would want but the customer is always right.

That isn't normal crackle finish,
To me it looks like the soft touch fake leather effect paint.
Have you got a better photo, or have you seen the dash to know if it feels slightly soft.

HI,

I can't say if it is soft feel but I doubt it.
The cars were built as factory racers in period (1950's) and I doubt that the tactile nature of the dash was a consideration.

I have had someone guess that it is to do with the amount of hardener used and the timing of the layers but I have no idea how to go about it and no time to experiment really.

I just wondered if there were any more ideas or experience here.

I have seen interior paints designed to give a distressed look from a can but I doubt they would really be any good for an open top car. I suppose they could be clear coated to protect.

Any ideas are welcome.

Looks to me like the paint has degraded over the years and started to break down?
If you want to try and replicate it, I'd start by looking at some custom paint websites and search for "marbling". Try this... kustomkulturelounge
