Engine bay cleaning

Hi all

I've got an oil leak on my MX5 and need to clean the front of the engine so I can see where the leak is coming from. Would I be best just using a de greaser and detergent with a firm brush to remove the oil or is there a better option anyone can suggest? I'd prefer to avoid steam cleaning if possible.
