Rang them and they quoted me at £360 thats for car in tyres off and acid dipped shot blasting and powder coating
I then rang a local lad he said he would wet paint then keeping the tyres on but clamping the tyre back to paint all but the inner (where the tyre sits) will cost me £160
£200 is one hell of a difference but id aprechiate the fanatics insight smile

Wheel specialist = proper job

Other guy = falling off inside 12 months!

I do wheels myself but for a colour change you will be better spending the money doing it properly as you will get fed up of seeing silver inside on your black rims.

as I said I have used Mark a few times for my full returns as it saves me time and I can still make a mark up on the job.

Oh please, where do you get that idea from. I wet paint alloys, over 60,000 in the last 10 yrs, offer a full 3 yr warranty, never had to go back to one yet.

Don't tar us all with the same brush as some of the ststers out there please.

Maybe I worded it incorrectly but for £160 what is he going to get, as I said I also do wheels when I'm not overly busy with paintwork but not for £160!

That price is just about trade rates for a face paint.

There is nothing wrong with wet painting them like you I have painted thousands of wheels but for a colour change it would be easier and better in my belief to have them stripped and recoated.

IMHO Powder is a much tougher and more durable finish. Having said that I see the point in 6 month old wheels though, when the powder gets kerb damaged it tends to peel off in large circles, would like to know why this is? but they seem to be prone to it.
I suppose if the powder process was the best then surely the manufacturers would be utalising this process.

.... as long as you're using the correct lacquer - otherwise the solvents will over time attack the plastic and make them look as if they're made out of cracked ice.
