Hi,

I had my rear wheel arches repaired about 3 years ago with new arches welded in. My drivers side arch is still fine and looks exactly how it did after it was repaired, but the passenger side now looks worse than it did before it was repaired with bubbling rust and cracks in the paint appearing and after checking both sides, I have an inner and an outer wheel arch on the drivers side as expected, but an inner, the original rotten outer and now the new rotten outer on the passenger side which to me explains why one has rusted badly again (don't know why they would do one properly and the other badly).

But my main question is the cracks and bubbles of rust seem to be emmitting gloopy base coat which is forming squigy balls on the holes it has come through (on top of the clear coat), I have never seen this before and after 3 years I would expect the paint to have dried completely and gone hard? Does this mean that the whole rear end of the car which they resprayed will have paint problems underneith the hardened clear coat even on the good side? (leading to a costly strip and repair?)

If anyone can explain why this is happening (the gloopy paint) and if it will cause any problems in the future I would really appriciate it smile

(I can pop pictures up if that would help?)

Cheers

David

could it be some sort of seam sealer they've used on the join, this stuff tends to stay pretty flexible.

A mate had his bike resprayed as a race rep. The finish was perfect. Until we put a magnetic tank bag on it. After a day, the paint would wrinkle up under the clear coat or something. Take the tank bag off and after a day or so the paint settled back to a perfect finish.

Odd.

It can be a couple of things, the base/paint/hardener etc were old and or reacting, coming out thru micro cracks and or pin holes.

It could be moisture and or condensation in pockets in the fillers and paint, this has reacted with the substrate.

If the liquid smells funny, like old filler then that is usually what it is.

Sorry but I have seen this before in the shop and the only answer is a complete strip out, get rid of every bit and do it again, if you are going to sell it within a few days of the repairs then you have other choices.
