What i have witnessed myself is when my father sold on the bodyshop side of his business with all the customers equipment etc and even 2 of the staff ,but the new owners did not have the same outlook on standards and work.
Sorry for going off topic slightly, wasn't in South Woodham was it?No it was not.
The guys who bought company and ran into the ground went onto doing smart repairs on the road.
They are now earning alot of money and have many vans out on the road covering a large area.
I do get to see a hell of a lot of paintwork bodyshop and smart repair and still in contact with many of My dads old bodyshop staff members (in fact one works for me)so i know whats used what goes on and how money is made.
Its not that i am slagging off smart repairs in general its just a simple fact we see more smart repair paint failing or of a poor standard than mainstream bodyshops you have to remember what standard and level KDS goes to and we will always spot what 95% public wont, those 95% puplic will be happy with jobs that i wont be.
we get asked to do smart repair blends on customers cars to keep down the costs every single time we refuse even thou it would have more profit for KDS and less expense for the customer.
This means we loss work sometimes ,and even from my own customers but i will stand strong and say that the ones i lost due to the cost KDS charge end up returning.
Here is a perfect example of a non-smart repair mainstream bodyshop job gone wrong with KDS having to pick up the pieces and re-do/fix it.
OH he is a returning customer

Interesting pictures. We are classed as 'SMART' repairers but typical defects that you see in many bodyshop jobs we don't have a problem with because we are very fastidious and do things by the book.
Fisheyes, dirt inclusions, dry lacquer, and poor gloss from drop back etc is something we often on repair jobs done before us, and I find it astonishing that it's considered acceptable for a car to go out like that, because it wouldn't happen on my watch.

I get customers all the time that are surprised what good job i do especially living in manchester and some off the conditions we work in! But you are right im hyper critical of my own work, and if it aint right it gets fixed. May e thats why im used by both mercedes and audi, main dealers! Even got told my work is better than mercs own bodyshop

Me too, but is not surprising considering the time constraints put on in house work nowadays. Also there's absolutely no loyalty in trade work, better to build up a name and reputation for yourself than someone else.Gassing Station | Bodywork & Detailing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
