Quick spray painting question

I'm painting a small piece of trim (headlamp washer cover).

I have used Halfords plastic primer, then several coats of paints of Paints4U metallic blue.

My question is do I use 1200 wet and dry before the (Halfords) clear coat, or not?

Halfords clear coat can says 'yes', most of the internet says 'no'.

If you can obviously see it's got bits in it then yes - but you would then need to finish off with another couple of coats.
Otherwise no!
As it's a metallic paint if you sand it you damage the metallic particles.
