Im very seriously considering buying a fiberglass 80s Lotus, and have viewed one that i am very interested in.
Its at a Lotus specialist, but has just had a full respray.
Im not usually fussy with cosmetics, as long as it looks similar to the shape that left the factory. (cleaned the interior of my current car twice in nearly a year)
But what would really annoy me is if the paint or lacquer started peeling or any other paint defections. Especially ones that get worse if left un corrected.

So what are the tell tale signs as to how well the car has been sprayed?
The car is white if it makes any difference.
Thank you

As it's just had a respray I'd say you're a bit stuffed unless you can see photos of the prep as they could have just painted over any cracking gelcoat without chasing it out to prevent recurrence.

The only way to tell if it was a good job, unfortunately, is to wait and see how bad it looks 5 years / 30k later. If it looks bad, it was probably a half decent job. If it looks awful, it was probably an average job and so on...

Look out for pinholes in the paint, check all the shut lines for any peeling or tape lines, look for overspray on the rubbers. Other than that its a bit of a lottery with fibreglass.

I would find out who did the respray and talk to them directly. If they have a website then you can probably get an indication as to how experienced they are with fibreglass preparation and paint.
