Hi there,

I was considering having Venture Shield paint protection put onto my car before I collect it.....would you recommend it, does it polish up as well as normal bodywork? I have a friend who will supply it to me at a good price and another who fits it.....
I would also like to buy some high quality products so I can do the detailing on my car myself, please would you recommend everything I would need and what is best to use. Are snow foams and foam lances worth it?
I would really appreciate your advice, cheers,

Jamie.

Hi Jamie, had Ventureshield applied to my car 4 years ago when it was new before collecting it. Very pleased with it. It's on a white car and shows no sign of discolouring. (though car is garaged and used at week ends only) Had it fitted to front bumper/valance, mirrors, sills and in front of rear wheels. One place I regret not having it applied is behind rear wheels (underneath rear vallance if you know what I mean). Easy to maintain using same polish as rest of car. I useAutoglym products and have no complaints.

Both my Porsche and Ferrari have been covered in Paintshield since new (collected by them from the dealer) and both have toured Europe.

I wouldn't let anyone else touch my cars in terms of paint protection. I have no chips but the bonus is (as both have full car cover) I have no swirls or scratches either. Cleaning them is a doddle as I can scrub away without fear of marking the paint.

It isnt the cheapest but if you wanted cheap, you wouldn't be asking the question I guess.

By contrast my E92M3 hasnt got any film on it, it's an Alpine white one and as you would expect, it has it's fair of stone chips at the front and I have to machine polish it every winter to keep the paint looking new. Wish I had had that done from new too!

Cleaning wise I tend towards Meguiars traditionally and still use their products on my track car, other moderns (without paintshield) and classics but on these two, because of the film, I use a deioniser (superb) on my hose and Meguiars car shampoo (cant remember which - pink) and that's it. I've stopped using polishes and speed detailer on them as the original detail I had done is sealed in by the film and adding chemicals after the deionised water wasn't working for me.

To avoid confusion Paintshield are a company and have no proprietary film themselves; rather they use/have used one of the 3 major clear film products available this side of the Atlantic - Ventureshield, XPel, Suntek.

Ventureshield is the oldest and to be honest has been superseded by a newer product so I'd steer clear unless the fitter guarantees it's the new film Scotchguard Pro (I don't know if it's even available yet in the UK actually). You can't really go wrong with any of the other two, but if i had to pick it would be Suntek. Jerry

I had Paintshield fit film to my Aventador in 2012. No idea which film was used but it was self-healing. Worked a treat and I could wax it but frankly it looked so good I didn't bother. The car was detailed before film was installed so maybe that made a difference. Guys at Paintshield were top quality and very professional but, as stated before, you get what you pay for so not cheap. Worth it for peace of mind though.

As the bloke who does the detailing before the film goes on (when requested by the client) I can honestly say that they are the best in the country. They don't cut on the car and any patterns that they don't already have are made in house using cad. As you can imagine, I've seen some installers make a right mess of the car and even install film that looks awful. You will struggle to ever notice the film on the car when it's been applied.

As my clients know, I have very high standards and paintshield are the only ppf installers in the country I recommend to my clients. When McLaren released the first P1, they went straight to paintshield to protect their car and now, paintshield have done more P1 ppf installations that anyone in the world.

+1. It was my detailer who recommended Paintshield and as you said they don't cut on the car which is a big plus. Their precut for the Aventador was great with no lines visible and a great finish.
