I have a car with 3M Ventureshield film already applied, and have bought the Gtechniq kit with a view to applying C1 and EXO.

Now, I know I need to clean the existing wax off the car. However, the Gtechniq panel wipe says not to apply it to film. This is going to make it very difficult to clean the bodywork if the PW is going to affect the film. So how do I prep the car?

Also, can I put C1 on the film too? Or should I just put the EXO on the film areas? My objective is just to make the car easier to clean!

Many thanks...

Don't put it over film. If you have PPF I wouldn't recommend an aggressive nano ceramic sealant on it. The solvents in the product - and in the prep fluid - will be far too strong.

You are putting a cagoule over a raincoat anyway, in what you are planning. You have the PPF. If you need to add more to the finish, use a low VOC carnauba wax - ie one that smells of fruit rather than boot polish/solvent. The strong solvents are what you need to avoid.

Thanks for the reply. The Ventureshield is only on the high risk areas of the car though, I'd like to put the sealant on the exposed paintwork. I can do this easily on the roof and doors but just about every other panel is partly covered with film, sounds like I won't be able to touch these?

The Exo is going to be less critical than the C1. Just give the PPF a thorough clean and spray the Exo on those panels without the prep cleaning product - it won't last as long as C1 and it will have a reduced lifespan if not on panelwiped surfaces, but it is a bit milder than the C1. Gyeon Wetcoat is a better alternative as it is water based and MUCH friendlier. The company I work at has developed something similar - these water based sealants are better for PPFs to be honest. Otherwise, as mentioned before, a mild solvent carnauba wax will probably give adequate protection but it does take a bit longer to apply.

Why not prep the panels carefully while keeping a small distance away from the paint shield and use your C1 and then use Exo on the paintshield and make sure you overlap with the C1 that is on the painted areas.
will be a bit more time consuming but you should end up with the result you want.

Pop over to detailing world, and ask Rob on the gtechniq forum, you'll have your answer in a day.

Why not fit a kingsize duvet over the car and hold it in place with some rope?

That way it wont get dirty or stonechipped. You can take the duvet off at the weekend and wash that instead.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm just going to have to be really careful, doing something like J12KLR suggested.
I'll sign up at Detailing World, thanks for the tip Kevin.
I have only had the car for a month but have used it every single day despite the weather... It's not a garage queen smile
