I'm buying a new car and not sure of the pros and cons of diamondbright. Is it good to have... or is it better to wax.... or..... ?????

  • shakes head at thought of having to regularly wash car again when old jalopy goes.

Try pricing it up on Amazon or similar then see what they're charging you to apply it at the dealer. One wanted £300 for supagard or something and you could get it for £12.99 on Amazon.

Last car we bought the dealer did it free and tried to make out how much of a favour they were doing us. That would only be the case if it'd have been considering paying for it, which I wouldn't dream of.

That said, the car is solid red, it's 6 months old and has been washed once, and it looks OK.

If applied incorrectly you can end up with a scratched car.

Would bother with the stuff that a dealer would apply. Its not exactly great and will just wear off very quickly. As someone said you can pick it up for buttons on ebay etc.

If you really want a coating talk to a local detailer about a ceramic coating, some of these will last up to 2 years. This will have to be professionally applied in a certain environment, but from what I've read do actually work. More expensive though!

Had Diamondbrite applied by a dealer (free as part of purchase), and the free bit was the only reason going for it. Was told car would only need a light wash, it's like a liquid glass, etc etc, to be honest, it's stays no cleaner and is no easier to clean than any of my other previous cars that have not had it, so personally, had I have paid for it, would have been somewhat disappointed.

Its a relatively average product, certainly doesn't last as long as they say.

Ceramic coating is better if you want a easy to maintain solution and don't like cleaning yourself, but finding somewhere that does it properly is key. However these don't last 2-3 years as claimed, most will wear or start to break down after a max of 6 months.

Was reading around and came across a post on DW about a wax called "Fusso" made by a Japanese company. This stuff is £20 a tin, claimed to last a year - that may be optimistic but its certainly lasting several months just fine judging by the pictures. I'd suggest getting some of that over diamondbright/supaguard etc.
