I've waxed my car with Simoniz car wax (the stuff in the Gold flat round tin) and the car looks brilliant. Whats a good sealant to keep it looking nice and shiny? I have some Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. Is that ok or will it remove the wax?

You don't need to add anything over the wax, so just enjoy it smile

The Autoglym EGP would be used as a final layer instead of wax if you preferred that to wax for looks / longevity. Adding EGP on top of wax isn't going to give you any more gloss or protection as it won't bond at all well.

I thought there were some different 'sealants' on offer to protect the wax?

Some products can be used to help increase the longevity of waxes, eg Bilt Hamber Auto-QD helps auto-balm last longer when used regularly, but EGP isn't going to last long enough over the Simoniz wax to protect it long term.

I've also found that final stage sealants can reduce the protection that the wax offers. Eg Werkstatt Acrylic Jett over BH Auto-Balm has less corrosion resistance than a single coat of Auto-Balm alone.

By all means experiment with it but imho you'd be better off spending the time rewaxing when required than trying to protect the wax with products intended to be used in place of wax.

Damn hard work to buff up that wax though, anything easier and as long lasting?

My favourite is Bilt Hamber Finis-Wax. Very easy to apply, looks good and is very long lasting.

If anything I'd add wax on top of sealant, rather than the other way around. Sealant is primarily used to protect the paint but from what I understand doesn't give as deep a shine as regular wax. It should last longer though.

Very difficult to beat Naviwax for ease of use. A brilliant wax.

The Extra Gloss Protection will not remove the wax, it is a sealant so will add an extra layer of protection over your simoniz, just make sure you apply a very thin layer and give it sufficient time to dry, at least 15 min per panel. if you go around the car and then remove from the first point of application you should be okay. To be avoided in the sun, but you should be okay at this time of year.

Wax on Wax off, enjoy smile

The terms used can be confusing but LSP (Last Stage Product) should go on last. This seals in the hard work you've done with your polish / paint cleanser.

Using the traditional terms I would say wax goes on last over polish. Sealant goes on last after the more modern synthetic type paint cleansers (polish).

The Detailing forums will give you all sorts of complicated advice but at the end of the day you want to clay your paint to remove contaminants, polish it so it's nice and shiny, and then seal in your hard work.
