I would recommend the mequiars clay kit, although I haven't tried the mitt. I have never gad an issue with the mequiars one but changed to the bilt hamber clay bar that can be used with water, but find it marrs and scratches. I have just reverted back to the mequiars.
I always used Maguire's clay bars , but having recently tried a clay mitt, I will not be using a clay bar again. The mitt is so much faster and easier to use.

Clay mitts are great and I can recommend the G3 one from Halfords. You don't even really need to use a detailing spray. Simply use it with a bucket of PH neutral shampoo, dunk the mitt in, use the soft side to soak part of a panel and then use the other side to clay. I'd also say if you like SRP then Extra Gloss Protection is the perfect topping. Dead easy to apply and the two work really well together.

AG glass polish is good but only really needed for very dirty glass. I find Fast Glass is more than good enough for day to day duties and is also good on door shuts, chrome effect plastic etc.

The DW forum can be interesting but if you ask for a recommendation you'll get twenty people all recommending different products. I also can't stand the irritating thing where you can thank people for posts. I'm also be in a mood with the lot of them after they ignored a question of mine about pressure washers...

Must admit I was surprised to find that Autoglym stuff is still well regarded. I had expected to hear that it was old-hat and inferior to the newer brands; glad that's not the case as it's generally cheaper than the competition and I do like to buy British products where possible.

So I've taken advantage of Halfords 3 for 2 offer, which worked out cheaper overall than any of the online retailers, and stocked up on (mostly) Autoglym products...
Big bottle of SRP
Glass polish
Interior shampoo
Quick detailer
Extra Gloss Protection
Meguiars clay bar

Still undecided on the DA polisher; for a machine that won't be used all that often they're pricey (£80 is the cheapest I've seen). Had hoped to find Screwfix and the like would offer their own-brand version for half that, as they do with just about every other power tool you can name, but evidently that's not the case.

Now need a warm, dry, still day with no interruption from work/fiancé/offspring to put it all to use, so I'll report back in 5 or 6 years wink

Re the DA polisher, I'm of the same mind. For the price of a decent one, DAS6 PRO (plus pads and compounds) springs to mind, I could get the car detailed properly by a professional, maybe even twice.

I've been on DW since the begin and I used to be a 'you must buy a DA' person. But nowadays there are so many products that fill the swirls, that unless you're really concerned about swirl its not worth buying one.

Since we had twins 14 months ago I've managed to wash my car three times and its swirly as hell but I'm not to worried anymore (sure when I get a nice car again I'll go nuts) as I know a product like SRP or CG Blacklight will hide the worst of it.

theres also that Kamikaze clearcoat stuff that is a coating that fills, which could be interesting.

As said if you do want your car deswirled it is more practical to get someone to do it for you, otherwise you'll be like me with £100s worth of polishers sat unused in your garage for 15 months.

I quite like that prima amigo, or black hole,
Black hole is easier to find but prima amigo is easy to get on and off

Srp leaves the car too dusty and it always seems to attract dust afterwards
With regards to wax. Collinite 476 is the nicest I've found. But don't league it on long because it's hard to get off

I thought they'd reformulated SRP so it isn't dusty?

But the key to reducing the dust is not use so much and give your applicator a light spritz of water.

The best waxes are Carnauba, such as Harly Wax available here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aag/main?ie=UTF8&se...

Correct, although I never found the old version dusty the new one isn't either, dust = too much being applied.

It is a bit of a pain on black plastics but again if not too much used its easy to get off.

I`m still working through an 80`s gallon can of SRP & it does a good job at reviving the surface. Recently I discovered the Bilt Hamber auto balm which is lovely to apply & beads incredibly well, so a 3x a year effort is SRP followed by the auto balm. Autobalm is clear so doesn`t have the aggravation of dust you get with SRP. I`ve got my lad`s car back from pink to red with Farecla 3G on a polisher followed by the above & neighbours thought it was a different car!

Have a look at morethanpolish.com - I have used autoglym, meguiars etc for a number of years and was introduced to their raceglaze range and when used with
1) clay bar
2) meguiars paint cleaner applied with a machine polisher
3)pre-wax cleanser
4) 2 coats of raceglaze 55
The finish is outstanding....no swirls, no silicon residue and very deep shine. Hard work though!
