Clay, if used correctly, glides over the surface of the paint and knocks off anything standing proud of the surface.
If not clean however, I could see how clay could induce damage of its own.

Clay Mitts do slightly mark paintwork, mainly because they're like using a clay bar poorly, but for the increase in speed it's worthwhile.

Only need to do it once or twice a year really too, and I live under trees.

Used the G3 Clay Mitt recently - great experience.

Really easy to use, didn't take too long to do the whole car, and the finish was amazing. Car felt like silk afterwards

They only mark the paint if not lubricated enough or use too much pressure, ive never had an issue and the speed is vastly improved.
