20 year old car paintwork issues
Discussion
Hi Guys.
Inherited FiL`s Jaguar, 95 Sovereign metallic sapphire blue I think, a couple of years ago & have been rectifying various issues as time has permitted.
My next fairly major, read expensive, task is bodywork. I have decided to do what she needs, bonnet, boot, boot scuttle, bumper corners & a door top. The damage on panels, lacquer lift, was apparently caused by a pressure washer & i`ve spoken with a spray shop & they explained how they blend to match etc they have a good reputation & work I saw looked high quality to me, a layman, so all good.
What I want to know is should I have the paintwork `mopped` prior to it going into the bodyshop? Maybe that sounds daft but the roof has so many swirls, scratches & the like I am concerned it will look completely wrong if Its done afterwards.
I know nothing of detailing or mopping so it will be given to someone to sort, under bonnet too, or should I just let bodyshop mop it & have it detailed after it comes back?
For clarification this car has no rust where Jag`s usually rust & has only covered 58000 miles so I wont be getting any calls to say its like an old pear!

A full 'detail' will include a full paint correction mop,
Most bodyshops I've dealt with over the years weren't the cleanest lot, so best get all the paint work out the way then get it valeted and cleaned up. Just make sure you tell the guy mopping it where its been painted, Which he should be able spot before you tell him.

No point in mopping it - where it's going to painted and blended it will need to be cleaned of any products and 'keyed' anyway.
I'm surprised that they are doing just the work you've stated ..... it wouldn't take that much more prep work (man hours) or materials to give it a near complete re-spray.
